The Easiest Way To Tie A Bow Tie

Posted on 24-11-2016 by Benedict Lim

So, you have to tie a bow tie. Whether if it’s for a wedding or a fancy event for work of sorts, it’s the only kind of neckwear formal enough to go with a great tux that you rented.

Well, you could just get a pre-tied bowtie that you fasten around your neck, but, where’s the wow factor in that? Tying a bow tie may seem like a daunting task but once you get the hang of it, it’s actually a pretty simple process. You know what they say, practice makes perfect. Just take it slow with our step-by-step guide and you will be a bow tie pro in no time.

Start by draping the bow tie over your neck, with the left side hanging slightly lower than the right.

Step 1: Cross the longer end over the shorter end and pull it under and through the neck loop to form a knot.

Step 2: Now fold the shorter end (which until now has just been hanging out) up to form the front part of the bow.

Step 3: Bring the longer end over the center of the bow and hold it in place.

Step 4: Pinch the bow together to expose the small hole that’s been formed behind it.

Step 5: Fold the longer end into a bow shape and pull it through that hole.

Step 6: Tighten the bow, adjust as necessary to make sure both sides are even, and you’re good to go!

Now, that wasn’t so hard, was it? With some practice, you might even be able to do it without a mirror. If you’re reading this because your wedding’s coming up, here are 3 wedding suit myths you should stop believing.
